This watercolour class is designed to be creative play.  Take some time out to enjoy and reconnect with nature and the beautiful woodlands around Rudyard Lake

Suitable for a complete beginner to watercolour or you wish to improve your skills. Explore techniques using line and wash which will inspire you to paint more loosely in watercolour and create exciting paintings

There will be opportunities in the class for to do outdoor sketching depending on the weather.  However, we will have ample reference images or you may wish to bring your own photo. There is no shortage of inspiration with stunning views across Rudyard Lake or sketch the woodland, boats, and buildings.

From demonstrations you will then carry out exercises painting loose with watercolour, using your sketches. Then after lunch your final piece will be worked on from your morning sketch.

Enjoy a specially prepared delicious buffet lunch including freshly baked cakes prepared on site and unlimited tea coffee and biscuits.

A boat ride can be organised subject to weather, or if you prefer continue to paint in the studio.

Arrival, refreshments

10.00am - 11.00am
"Taking your pencil for a walk", introduction to the magic of sketching.  Starting with easy drawing warm ups, Learn some simple pencil sketching techniques including the importance of light and shade shadows. We will then explore colour mixing, pen and wash and "play" with paint, letting the paint flow.

11.00am - 12.30pm
Weather permitting we will explore the woodland forest beside the studio to practice what we have learned without any goal of leading to a masterpiece. Instead, find pure joy and relaxation in sketching. Then return to the studio and spend our time preparing our main painting for the afternoon.

However, with lots of reference images available, if you prefer to stay in the studio that can also be arranged.

Buffet lunch from the tea room on site.

1.30pm
Continue working on our larger piece of artwork or learning further techniques. Without any goal to create a masterpiece but enjoy the process.

4pm - Finish

The retreat takes place upstairs at the activity centre at Rudyard Lake in Staffordshire. However, there is a also a lift should you require it.
